Here you’ll find our selection of English Beech timber, sourced from the historic Chatsworth Estate, just 15 miles from our workshop in Edale, Derbyshire.

We have sawn this timber in a range of thicknesses, from 5/8″ up to 4″, allowing it to be used for everything from fine joinery and furniture making to turning and general woodworking projects. As we source and process the timber ourselves, we’re able to offer high-quality English Beech at a very competitive price.

Beech is often overlooked in favour of more fashionable hardwoods, and much of the commercially available material has been steamed, giving it a uniform pinkish appearance. By contrast, our locally grown English Beech is predominantly a clean, pale cream colour, with some boards displaying attractive natural flaming and figure. It is an excellent choice for turning projects, including chair legs, spindles, bowls and other decorative work.

We also took the opportunity to quarter saw part of one log, producing boards at 15mm thickness. Whilst not as dramatic as Oak, quarter-sawn Beech reveals subtle but beautiful medullary ray figure, making it particularly well suited to cabinet panels, drawer sides and other fine furniture details.
